Pinta Energy Acquires Generate Upcycle, Bringing Total UK Biogas Capacity To Over 600GWh

Renewable energy investor and operator Pinta Energy UK has successfully acquired anaerobic digestion developers & operators, Generate Upcycle UK.
Previously owned by US based private equity fund, Generate Capital. The acquisition of their UK energy platform, built to meet the demands of today’s changing power market includes an impressive 7 innovative anaerobic digestion plants spanning the British Isles, from Aberdeenshire in Scotland to Norfolk in the South East of England, all the way down to Cornwall in the South West.
Turning organic waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertilisers, Generate Upcycle are delivering sustainable, circular waste management solutions to communities across North America, Europe and the UK; partnering with municipalities and businesses across sectors to divert food and agricultural waste from landfills, and therefore recycling waste into value.
As such, this successful acquisition perfectly complements Pinta Energy UK’s overarching mission: to build a resilient, low-carbon gas infrastructure that strengthens energy security whilst delivering environmental and economic benefits to local homes, businesses and farms across the UK.
This venture also comes with a number of additional expansion programmes that each could provide a further capacity up to 100GWh of renewable natural gas to the UK’s National Grid.
Michael Heenan, CEO of Pinta Energy UK, remarked on the platform’s newest acquisition:
“Building on the success of Brain’s Farm Renewable Energy acquisition back in March and the Charlton Park Biogas acquisition in 2025, we’re delighted to welcome Generate Upcycle’s 7 UK-based AD plants into the Pinta Energy fold.
This exciting venture sees us extend our footprint fully across the UK, therefore enabling us to develop stronger relationships with our customers, whilst building a stronger more secure supply chain.”
Of note, this exciting new development builds Pinta Energy UK’s total capacity to over 600 GWh (biomethane equiv.) bringing them firmly ahead of their targeted growth plan.
Pinta Energy UK is proudly owned by ABIO Energy and backed by Asterion Industrial Partners, delivering a common vision for a cleaner, secure energy future.
